News Flash - March 6, 2004 - The United Kingdom - Scientists Scoff at Claim of Young Students - No Such Thing As Three Headed Frog - Must Be Three Frogs Staying Warm Together

Much to the dismay of the scientists, the herpetologists of England, a three headed six legged frog was discovered by a group of school children in a local pond. No they were not hugging to stay warm; they had mutated into the first known hydra of the frog kingdom. Many headed monsters were the stuff of fiction and myth, and now right before the eyes of a disbelieving public and scientific community, fiction had become fact.

Long known as indicator species because of their fragile relationship to their environment, salamanders and frogs often can tell us the state of the eco-system in which they dwell long before scientists. The theory of evolution of the human species indicates that life began in water, evolved to come onto land as crawling amphibians, and then the process continued on land. Through billions of years of an evolutionary process life as we know it finally appeared only a few hundred thousand years ago. Certain species and their life may predict the future of life on this planet.

Frogs and salamanders are more than indicator species of the health of the environment; they may be signaling that all species are threatened by those factors that are causing extreme mutations.

The scientists say 'it's the chemicals - stupid', while we continue to create more and more chemicals for a variety of purposes. The frogs are unable to determine their own fate, but we still have time to say 'hey wait a minute, who or what is next' to mutate into a monster? What is the answer?

Is it time to take the necessary precautions? Or, will it take all frogs becoming mutated before we attempt to change the conditions that lead to this tragic break in the evolutionary patter. Is the many headed frog of England a warning signal?

Nature is speaking. Nature continues to speak. Nature speaks in different ways every year. Nature reminds us that we are compromising the integrity of the earth puzzle that has evolved over eons of time. We should all listen carefully.
